Nuşfalău. Calvinist Church

The Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania, launched in 1993, presents the most precious examples of Transylvanian built heritage connected to the Hungarian culture, with the purpose of drawing the general public's attention on values, heritage and our responsibilities towards these. The publications of this series are recommended especially to those who at present own or use such values, but also to those who are interested in history, architecture and the Transylvanian art.

Number 23 of the Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania presents the Calvinist Church in Nuşfalău. The village came in the possession of the Bánffy de Losonc family in the 14th century, whose members founded a Pauline monastery, thus the settlement was raised to the rank of market town. The hall church was probably built by László Bánffy de Losonc at the end of the 15th century; however, its tower was inaugurated later, in 1783. The keystones of the choir's rib vault are decorated with the coats of arms of the Bánffy de Losonc family and that of Péter Váradi, Archbishop of Kalocsa.
