Cluj-Napoca. The House of Kós Károly on Breaza Street

The Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania, launched in 1993, presents the most precious examples of Transylvanian built heritage connected to the Hungarian culture, with the purpose of drawing the general public's attention on values, heritage and our responsibilities towards these. The publications of this series are recommended especially to those who at present own or use such values, but also to those who are interested in history, architecture and the Transylvanian art.

Number 48 of the Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania presents the house on Breaza Street in Cluj-Napoca, designed by Károly Kós. The edifice is the architect's first design (1910), based on the idea of the plan entitled The Artist's Curia, made in 1907. The house is the most important element in its surrounding area, both from the point of view of cultural history, and that of history of architecture. The building was little transformed along time, regaining its harmonious and unitary appearance after the rehabilitation works it went through in the past yeas.
